A major part of the school experience for students is getting involved in clubs, music, or sports. Often, these extracurricular activities give students the opportunity to travel for competitions. That experience is available to students who are getting their education online. With plenty of clubs available to students, they are sure to find an opportunity to come together in person as an organization.
Idaho Technical Career Academy is one school that recently came together in person to participate in the Business Professionals of America Idaho competition, where they took part in a workplace skills assessment in Boise this past February against more than 1,400 other students.
Some students had a short commute to the competition, while others had to drive several hours. Once in Boise, the students stayed in the same hotel together, got to experience downtown Boise, and went to a hockey game. The students and their families were all reimbursed for their travel.
“These are the memories they’ll be telling their kids down the road,” said advisor Tammy Perez.
What is next for these students? They’ll be heading to Anaheim, California, for the national competition, where they’ll attend workshops and leadership training, network with others, and see the sights of southern California.

While at the conference, student elections were held, and Job W. from Idaho Technical Career Academy was elected as the organization’s president. In his leadership role, Job is working with other chapters to plan the next convention and is looking to help start new chapters across the state. He’ll also represent the state of Idaho at the national convention.
