The immense popularity ofMinecraft can’t be overstated. With around 45 million copies sold across all platforms (PC/Mac, Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and mobile) it’s one of the best-selling games of all time. While the PC and console versions have sold more copies, the app,Minecraft PE(Pocket Edition), routinely tops the charts for paid apps in every app store.
We asked one of K12’sOHVAstudents, Stefan Urbanek, tocompare Minecraft PE to the computer versionwhen it first came out. At the time, he said he would like to see the app updated “to be exactly the same as the computer version except it would be portable. (Duh!?)” Now, the game developer is one step closer.
As of July 10,Mojangdelivered what the company called the “biggest update yet” to Minecraft PE.
Update 0.9.0 adds:
Infinite worlds.
Caves.
New blocks and items including Monster Eggs and huge mushroom blocks.
Wolves. Tame a loyal companion.
Loads of new flowers.
New mobs, including endermen and Mooshrooms.
New biomes from the PC version, including mesas, jungles, swamps and extreme hills.
Abandoned mineshafts, villages, and many other cool places to explore.
A brand-new “interaction” button. Never accidentally punch a sheep again.
New feature generation, including lakes, vines and monster rooms.
Many bugs fixed.
Update 0.8.0 added a bunch of new features, too. Mine carts, rails and powered rails, new textures and colors from the PC version, new carpets, wood types, crops, food types, and much more. Mojang also “massively increased” the game’s draw distance, which you can tweak in the game’s options menu, made mobs more intelligent, improved lighting and fog effects and squashed some bugs.
