Online learning, sometimes referred to as homeschool, has led to student success for thousands of families. This series, Student Success Stories, features highlights from What’s your Story?, a site that’s home to real stories from real students about how their lives have changed because of individualized, online education through K12 programs.
Iris began her online learning experience as a kindergarten student with K12’s Ohio Virtual Academy. Her family wanted more parent involvement in her education, and as a former teacher, her mom thought it would be best to be the main teacher for their daughter.
“K12 is too good to be true,” Iris’s mom, Reginita, says, adding that the program “enhances her daughter’s love for learning and that she will get a solid, all around education.’
Like all K12 students, Iris received a package full of materials for her online education program.
“We were truly excited and felt like we found a trunk of treasure full of fun educational goodies,” Reginita says. “Our school has more focus and we enjoy watching our daughter flourish. She breezed through her lessons and is working on Second Grade Math and Language Arts. We are so glad to have found a school that encourages students to progress at their own rate without any hindrance.”
She believes the content of the curriculum as well as concerned and engaging teachers makes K12 special.
“Our daughter really enjoys the interaction with them and her online friends,” she says. “We like the balance of computer and book activities, the learning through game methods, and of course all the materials that are provided for free! Our daughter’s journey in education is set, and as her learning coach, I enjoy going along for the ride.”
