DIY Monkey Valentine’s Day Card (VIDEO)

Options seem endless when it comes to creative ideas for a Valentine’s Day card, but here is a cute one that you can make along with your children. It uses their little fingers and incorporates learning opportunities while making special memories with your kids. Watch our video and read below for full instructions.

Supplies You Will Need:

  • Construction Paper (or card stock)
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Green and Brown Paint
  • Paintbrush
  • Stickers to Decorate
  • Googly Eyes
  • Pen or Marker

Learning Opportunities:

Similar Shapes – When cutting out the circles for the monkey, you can discuss with your child the geometry concept of similar shapes. Since some circles are smaller than the others, you can point out how they are similar even though they are not the same size.

Endangered Species – A recent article from USA Today revealed that approximately 60 percent of our non-human primate species are in danger of extinction. As you are coloring your monkey Valentine’s Day card with your child, use this as an opportunity to discuss endangered species and the importance of caring for the animals of our planet.

When you’re done, don’t forget to tell them just how much you loved “hanging” out with them. Thanks to Crafty Morning for inspiring such a great idea!
