5 Summer Math Enrichment Activities for Kids

As parents, it is our duty to invest in our children’s education year-round, even in the summertime when relaxation can take precedence. In this series, entitled Summer Enrichment Activities, we’ve gathered some of the fun ways we’re helping close the summer learning gap by taking the time to nurture and cultivate all students’ natural brilliance and curiosity. Summer learning is so important, and it benefits kids in a number of ways. So, let’s work together to keep our students’ minds sharp during the summer with these five fun summer math enrichment activities.

1. Shell Memory Math Game

Using math games to teach is a great way for parents to connect to what kids are learning while making it fun. This shell memory math game takes the classic memory concentration game and puts a summertime twist on it!

2. Water Balloon Math

This water balloon learning activity is the perfect game for a hot summer day. It’ll give kids the chance to cool off with a burst of water while they learn a little math in the process. They simply calculate the problem and throw the balloon  to the correct answer target. You can change the task part of this game based on your kids’ ages and whether you want to teach math or letters and shapes.

3. Pool Noodle Counting

Math is one of those things that requires a lot of repetition, and the best way to take the monotony out of math is to use a variety of activities. It keeps it new, interesting, and fun. Pool Noodle Counting, for example, is a simple and easy way to repeat and review math facts and skills that students need to be successful.

4. Ice Cream in a Bag

As a summertime snack activity, who wouldn’t love to make their own ice cream? As a math lesson, parents can teach their kids valuable skills in the kitchen. It’s a win-win situation!

5. Cheese Ball Math

Cardboard, shaving cream, post-it notes, a marker, and some cheese balls are all you’ll need for this fun learning activity. Cheeseball Math is a great game for parents to keep up their sleeve for a rainy day activity, too.
