A Story of Perseverance: Ryan Miller in Goal for U.S. Men’s Hockey Team in Sochi

If there were ever a story of perseverance, Ryan Miller is it. In a moment the hockey world will never forget in the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Miller missed the game-winning shot from Sidney Crosby that gave the Canadian Men’s Hockey Team the gold.

Not only that, but his team—the Buffalo Sabres—is currently on the bottom of the NHL league. Yet Miller will return to the Olympic stage again with the U.S. Men’s Hockey Team in Sochi this winter Olympics. In the face of his team’s struggles, Miller was able to earn his spot to represent the U.S.

Miller knows that even if you fail, you have to pick yourself up and keep going. As he told CSN Washington about the Vancouver Olympics:

“It’s not something I want to beat myself up about. I made a mistake, and it went in the net. No one feels worse than I did. You get over it and keep playing.”

So when students are struggling in school or in a particular subject, it may be worth introducing them to Ryan Miller. His success story just might motivate them to always try their hardest, even in the face of adversity.

You can catch Miller and the U.S. Men’s Hockey Team today, Saturday, and Sunday.
