Amid Worldwide Protests: A Frank Perspective on Racism for Parents

Editor’s Note: On May 25, 2020, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died while police restrained him face down on the ground—kneeling on his neck and back as he struggled to breathe and eventually lost consciousness. Videos of the shocking incident sparked nationwide protests and renewed discussions over systemic racism and police brutality toward people of color in this country. As a parent, you may be at a loss about how to react to these events with your child, especially if you are not a person of color and have not been exposed to racial injustice.
